Baptism at LaFayette First
Take the Next Step in Your Faith
We believe baptism is a powerful step of obedience for everyone who has accepted Jesus as their Savior. It is an outward expression of an inward change—a public “yes” to what God has done in your heart.
Still have questions? Whether you’re curious about the “why” behind it or wondering if you need to be baptized again, we’re here to help you navigate this milestone.
What We Believe
Who should be baptized?
Salvation occurs when a person places their faith in the death and resurrection of Christ as the payment for their sin. If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are ready to be baptized.
Think of it like a wedding ring: a ring doesn’t make you married, but it shows the world that you are. Baptism is your opportunity to show others that you have started a new life with Christ.
What does baptism symbolize?
Baptism is a beautiful picture of the Gospel in action. It symbolizes three key things:
-
Your New Identity: You have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.
-
Death & Resurrection: Going under the water illustrates dying to your old life; rising out of the water represents your new life in Christ.
-
Cleansing: It symbolizes that you have been washed clean, with your sins forgiven through His sacrifice.
Note: Because Jesus instructed us to be baptized, it is an act of obedience and submission to Him. While it is not a requirement for salvation, it is a vital public acknowledgement of your faith.
Common Questions
What about Infant Christening? While we respect the traditions of other denominations, we believe Scripture teaches that baptism is for those who have made a personal profession of faith. Baptism doesn’t make you a believer; it shows that you already are one.
Do I need to do it again? If you were baptized as an infant or before you truly understood your faith, we encourage “believer’s baptism”—getting baptized again as a conscious, personal choice to follow Jesus.

We want your baptism to be both simple and deeply meaningful.
