Day 2: Humility in Action
Devotional: Humility is not just a feeling; it is an action. Paul demonstrated this by choosing not to exercise his rights as an apostle. He had every right to receive material benefits for his work, but he chose to forego them to ensure that nothing would hinder the spread of the Gospel. This act of self-sacrifice is a powerful example for us. Are we willing to give up our rights for the sake of the Gospel? Are we willing to put others’ needs before our own? Today, let’s challenge ourselves to practice humility in a tangible way. Find an opportunity to put someone else’s needs before your own and see how it impacts your relationship with them and with God.
Verse: For if I preach the gospel, I have no reason to boast, because I am compelled to preach—and woe to me if I do not preach the gospel! 17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward, but if unwillingly, I am entrusted with a commission.
Christian Standard Bible (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2020), 1 Co 9:16–17.
Question: What are you willing to give up so others can hear the Gospel?
Prayer: Lord, help me to put humility into action. Show me opportunities to put others’ needs before my own and to prioritize the Gospel over my rights. Give me the strength to follow Paul’s example of self-sacrifice. Amen.
