Day 3: The Cost of Humility
Devotional: Humility often comes at a cost. It requires us to let go of our pride, our rights, and sometimes even our comfort. Paul understood this and was willing to pay the price for the sake of the Gospel. He became all things to all people to save some, adapting to the needs and circumstances of those he was trying to reach. This kind of humility is challenging but incredibly rewarding. It allows us to build deeper relationships and to be more effective in our witness for Christ. Today, let’s reflect on the cost of humility in our own lives. Are we willing to pay the price? Are we willing to let go of our pride and our rights for the sake of the Gospel?
Verse: What then is my reward? To preach the gospel and offer it free of charge and not make full use of my rights in the gospel.
Christian Standard Bible (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2020), 1 Co 9:18.
Question: Are you willing to let go of your pride and your rights for the sake of the Gospel?
Sermon Quote: “Paul’s doing the same. He said, hey, if they’re with the law, if they’re following the law, I’ll be like that. If they’re without the law, I’ll be like them. I’ll be like the weak. I’m going to go wherever I can go, to every single place I can go with the hope of winning them.”
Prayer: Lord, help me to understand the cost of humility and to be willing to pay it. Give me the strength to let go of my pride and my rights for the sake of the Gospel. Help me to become all things to all people so that I might save some. Amen.
