Day 1: The Essence of Humility
Devotional: Humility is a cornerstone of the Christian faith. It is the quality that makes us most like Christ. Jesus, though He was God, humbled Himself to become a servant and ultimately sacrificed His life for our salvation. Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 9:1-23 that humility is not just a virtue but a necessity for anyone who wants to follow Christ. He chose to forego his rights as an apostle to ensure that nothing would hinder the spread of the Gospel. This week, let’s start by examining our own lives. Are there areas where pride has taken root? Are we more concerned with our rights than with the Gospel? Let’s commit to practicing humility, putting others’ needs before our own, and prioritizing the Gospel in all we do.
Verse: For my part I have used none of these rights, nor have I written these things that they may be applied in my case. For it would be better for me to die than for anyone to deprive me of my boast! Christian Standard Bible (Nashville, TN: Holman Bible Publishers, 2020), 1 Co 9:15.
Question: Are there areas in your life where pride has taken root, and how can you replace that pride with humility?
Sermon Quote: “Can I tell you today the thing we lack, One of the biggest things we lack in Christianity is humility.”
Prayer: Lord, help me to see the areas in my life where pride has taken root. Give me the strength to replace that pride with humility, just as Jesus did. Help me to put others’ needs before my own and to prioritize the Gospel in all I do. Amen.
